Did you know that May 13 is International Hummus Day? Apparently on this day, people like to share their hummus recipes and eat hummus .
Hummus is traditionally a Middle Eastern dip which has become really popular every where. It’s made from blended chickpeas, sesame seeds, olive oil, lemon and garlic. A lot of people have started to make their own versions of the dip by adding tomatoes, chilies, peppers, coriander and even garam masala. Hummus is usually eaten as a dip but I often use it as a sandwich spread too. Supermarkets sell lots of different versions of Hummus. It’s a favourite lunchtime snack eaten with pitta bread, savoury biscuits or crisps.
I made this hummus with the usual hummus ingredients and also added a dash of garam masala. It was made within minutes in my Froothie Evolve.
Garam Masala is a blend of whole spices which are toasted in a pan to release their aromatic flavors, then ground to a powder. Every family usually has their own blend of garam masala which is made in small quantity and added at the end of the cooking procedure so they one can enjoy the taste and aroma. My family usually makes it using cinnamon, cloves, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, and a very small amount of peppercorns.
Froothie Evolve is a new gadget in my kitchen. It comes with 2 jugs – both made of tempered glass. The first jug has a heating element which allows you to cook & blend or steam & blend (if you use the steaming function and the stainless steel basket). The first jug is going to be perfect for my soups and steamed vegetables. The second jug is a high speed blender jug with 6 blades to give you the smoothest blending result possible. For the hummus I used the second jug. Both the lids of the jugs have different functions. The second jug which I used has lid with a vacuum option which means that my hummus comes out looking fresh as there is no oxidation.
Now to my really easy recipe for hummus. This is my recipe using an ordinary I food processor. For this recipe I used the Froothie Evolve .
2. Remove in serving bowls and garnish with sesame seeds and garam masala and it’s ready to eat with pitta, wraps or parathas. The choice is limitless.
