Saucy Salad Dressing Inspiration

Make Your Own Salad Dressing At Home

Recently, my sister and I have been eating healthy salads and trying out new dressings to make our salads interesting and tasty.  Salads can be made with ingredients which are packed full of essential, natural vitamins and minerals that support our bodies to function at optimum levels.  They can be served as the main meal or as a side  dish with some meals.   My husband always says that salads are bland and boring like rabbit food so we decided to make some tasty vegan and vegetarian variations, with spices and oils, which took him by surprise.  So if you’re looking for some salad dressing inspirations,  you’ve come to the right place!  We have shared a few nutritious and delicious dressings you can simply whip up at home with minimal effort.

Cooking has become a lot easier these days as you can find a lot of salad recipes and salad dressing ideas online.  You can join also several foodie social media groups to get new ideas.  Browse through our blog to learn how vegetarians and vegans can ensure they are getting enough nutrients for a balanced diet.   However cooking is a lot easier than blogging. I am sharing some interesting  and tasty dressing ideas below:

1. Ballsy Balsamic Vinaigrette

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 minced garlic clove (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method:

  1. First whisk the balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard, and garlic together in a small bowl.
  2. Slowly drizzle the olive oil into the mixture while whisking continually, until the dressing is blended.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Feel free to vary the ratios to suit your taste preferences. For a tangier dressing, add a dash more vinegar to the mix.

  1. Lively Lemon & Herb Dressing

  • 1 lemon (approximately 3 tablespoons juice)
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 minced garlic clove
  • 1 teaspoon honey/maple syrup (optional for sweetness)
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh herbs of your choice (e.g. parsley, basil, thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method:

  1. Stir together the lemon juice, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, honey/maple syrup and herbs in a small bowl.
  2. Slowly mix the olive oil in while stirring continuously until the mixture is emulsified.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Experiment with the sweetness and tanginess quotient by adjusting the amount of honey or lemon juice.

  1. Glorious Greek Yogurt Caesar Dressing

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 minced garlic clove
  • 1 lemon (about 3 tablespoons juice)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method:

  1. In a bowl, blend the Greek yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, Dijon mustard and Parmesan cheese.
  2. Keep whisking until the mixture reaches a smooth and creamy texture.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to preference.
  4. Explore the thickness of the dressing by adding more yogurt, or the zestiness by squeezing in more lemon juice.

All of these dressings are very versatile and can be enjoyed as is, or serve as a base for experimenting with tossing in some other ingredients! The dressings can keep in the fridge for up to a week. Just be sure to shake or stir them up again before using them as there might be slight separation upon standing and storage.
