Hawaiian Pizza with Bechamel Sauce and Pineapple

Everyone enjoys pizzas and when you make them at home with the toppings you like, it’s even better.    Last week, I decided to try and replicate a pizza my husband and I enjoyed at the Pizza Express.  We had the vegetarian version of the Hawaiian pizza which had bechamel sauce topping.   I found this recipe online and decided to create our veggie version of the Hawaiian Pizza.

Ingredients:

  • 500 gm pack Ready bread mix (this mix has active yeast included in the flour) ( you can use bread flour and yeast too if you wish)
  • 1 cup bechemel sauce Recipe here
  • 7-8 spoonfuls of home made pineapple chutney
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese (you can use any cheese you like)
  • salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 1 cup sliced peppers
  • 1 cup pineapple cubes (tinned)
  • 2-3 sliced cherry tomatoes
  • 1 red onion sliced
  •  few jalepenos (to taste)
  • few hot green chilies (to taste)
  • 1 tbls oregano

Method:

  1. Prepare the bread dough as per the instructions on the packet.  I followed the instructions on my pack  but also added 3-4 cloves of grated garlic to enhance the taste of the base.  Once the dough was formed, I turned it onto a floured surface and allowed it to rest for 5 minutes.  Then I kneaded the dough for 2-3 minutes and again rested it for 5.  Then it was ready to be rolled and shaped into the pizza shaped.  Once all the pizza bases are shaped, cover them a lightly dampened cloth. Leave them rise in a warm place for an hour or until the dough has doubled in size. You should get 4 medium sized pizzas from one packet. Keep the pizza base very thin as it will double in size after resting it for an hour.  Now is the time to preheat the oven to 230ºC/Fan 210ºC/Gas Mark 8.
  2. Once the pizza dough has risen, cook it for 5 minutes.  Once cooked, the pizza base is ready for the toppings.   First spread the bechemel sauce and then the            pineapple chutney.  Then add any of your favourite toppings finishing with grated cheese.  Sprinkle some oregano and it’s ready to be cooked for 8-10 minutes at        230ºC/Fan 210ºC/Gas Mark 8.

3.  Add your favourite garnishing of and enjoy the crispy pizza with bechemel sauce instead of tomato sauce.  This pizza tastes perfect with the pineapple chutney        and pineapple toppings. Finally, we are able to enjoy a vegetarian Hawaiian Pizza at home.
